The United States Department of Defense has released the names of six American airmen who died after their refueling aircraft crashed during military operations connected to the ongoing conflict involving Iran in the Middle East.

The incident occurred on March 12, 2026, when a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker went down in western Iraq while supporting U.S. combat missions in the region. All six crew members aboard the aircraft were confirmed dead.

Military officials described the loss as a devastating moment for the U.S. Air Force and the families of the fallen personnel.

Names of the Airmen Who Lost Their Lives

The Pentagon identified the victims as:

  • Maj. John “Alex” Klinner, 33, from Alabama

  • Capt. Ariana G. Savino, 31, from Washington

  • Tech. Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, from Kentucky

  • Capt. Seth R. Koval, 38, from Indiana

  • Capt. Curtis J. Angst, 30, from Ohio

  • Tech. Sgt. Tyler H. Simmons, 28, from Ohio

Three of the airmen were assigned to the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, while the other three served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Ohio.

Crash Occurred During Mid-Air Incident

According to U.S. Central Command, the aircraft was flying in friendly airspace during a mission connected to the ongoing military campaign when it was involved in an incident with another refueling aircraft.

While the second aircraft managed to land safely, the KC-135 tanker crashed, killing everyone on board. Officials confirmed that the crash was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause.

Part of a Larger Military Operation

The aircraft was supporting Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing U.S. military campaign targeting Iranian military facilities alongside allied forces.

Aerial refueling aircraft like the KC-135 play a critical role in modern warfare by allowing fighter jets and bombers to remain airborne for longer missions without landing.

The crash marks one of the most serious aviation losses for the U.S. Air Force since the conflict began.

Growing Casualties in the Conflict

The deaths of the six airmen add to the increasing number of U.S. military casualties connected to the expanding conflict in the Middle East.

Reports indicate that the crash raised the total number of American service members killed in the conflict to at least 13, while more than 140 personnel have been injured during various attacks and military operations.

The escalating tensions between the United States and Iran have drawn global attention, with analysts warning that the conflict could further destabilize the region.

Tributes to the Fallen

U.S. Air Force commanders and defense officials have expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen airmen.

Military leaders described the victims as dedicated professionals who served their country with courage and commitment.

Their bodies are expected to be returned to the United States for military honors as the investigation into the crash continues.
