The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to receive a significant financial boost from FIFA as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to new figures approved by FIFA, Ghana will receive $2.5 million in preparation funds for the tournament, while an additional $10 million will be paid for qualifying for the global competition.
The new payments represent an increase from the previous World Cup structure, where teams received lower amounts for participation and preparation. FIFA’s latest decision forms part of a broader rise in prize money linked to the commercial success of the expanded 2026 tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first in history to feature 48 national teams, expanded from the traditional 32-team format. It will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For Ghana, the funds are expected to support training camps, player logistics, bonuses, accommodation, travel arrangements, and technical preparations as the Black Stars aim to make a strong impact on football’s biggest stage.
The financial support also arrives at a time when expectations are rising among Ghanaian fans, who want to see the national team return to its best after mixed performances in recent tournaments.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the organization is in a strong financial position and is reinvesting resources back into football development and participating nations.
Many supporters believe this funding gives Ghana a real opportunity to prepare properly and compete strongly against the world’s best teams.
With millions now on the table, pressure will also grow on football authorities to ensure the money is used wisely, transparently, and in a way that benefits the Black Stars.
The road to 2026 is now about more than qualification—it is about preparation, ambition, and delivering pride for Ghana on the world stage.
