Mahama Unveils Long-Term Support Package for Families of Fallen Military Helicopter Crew

President John Dramani Mahama has presented a comprehensive support package aimed at securing the welfare and future of families of the eight military personnel who died in the August 2025 helicopter crash.
The initiative, presented during a ceremony at the Jubilee House, includes financial assistance, educational support, healthcare provisions and other welfare measures designed to provide long-term assistance to the dependants of the deceased officers.
A major component of the package is the establishment of a GH¢1 million trust fund for each surviving minor child of the fallen heroes. The arrangement is intended to support the children’s future needs, particularly in education and general welfare.
The families were also presented with compensation packages, legacy boxes containing personal mementos, and letters from the President as part of efforts to preserve the memory and sacrifices of the military personnel.
Government honours national service
President Mahama reaffirmed that the state remains committed to ensuring that the sacrifices of the fallen officers are recognised and that their families receive continuous support.
The presentation ceremony brought together senior government officials, representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and members of the bereaved families.
The families expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as a source of encouragement and renewed hope during a difficult period.
Remembering the fallen heroes
The military helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, sparked national mourning and renewed discussions about the risks faced by personnel serving the country.
Beyond immediate compensation, the welfare package represents an attempt to create a lasting support system for the dependants left behind.
