Nanaimo Teen Arrested After Alleged Impaired Driving Crash Claims Two Lives on Vancouver Island
A tragic collision on Vancouver Island has left two men dead after a 16-year-old girl from Nanaimo was arrested in connection with an alleged impaired driving incident that unfolded in the early hours of the morning near Lantzville, British Columbia.

The fatal crash occurred on Highway 19, one of the Island’s busiest routes, where two vehicles collided head-on shortly after 3:00 a.m.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes, but both occupants of a Volkswagen Jetta were pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact. 
Investigators say the teenage driver, who was operating a Kia Sedona minivan, survived the collision and was transported to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. She was later arrested as police launched a criminal investigation into allegations of impaired driving and dangerous operation causing death. 
Authorities believe the minivan was travelling in the wrong direction on the divided highway before the devastating collision. Multiple witnesses have already provided statements, while investigators continue working to establish the vehicle’s movements in the hours leading up to the crash. 
Police are also appealing to motorists who were travelling through Nanaimo and the Lantzville corridor during the night to come forward with dash-camera footage that may help reconstruct the events. Officers say even a few seconds of video could prove valuable as they determine the exact sequence of what happened. 
Because the suspect is a youth, Canadian law protects her identity and no name has been released. The identities of the two deceased men have also been withheld while their families continue to receive support and notification. 
The tragedy has reignited conversations across British Columbia about impaired driving, particularly among young motorists.
Road safety advocates continue to stress that choosing to drive while impaired—or entering a roadway in the wrong direction—can have irreversible consequences for innocent families and entire communities. 
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say additional evidence, witness interviews and forensic analysis will determine whether formal criminal charges proceed through the justice system.
