Ghanaian football has been thrown into mourning following a deadly armed robbery attack on the team bus of Berekum Chelsea, which resulted in the death of forward Dominic Frimpong.

The incident occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road as the team was returning to Berekum after a Ghana Premier League fixture in Samreboi.

According to reports, a group of armed men blocked the road, bringing the team bus to a halt before launching a violent हमला. Witness accounts indicate that the attackers, masked and heavily armed, opened fire on the vehicle, causing panic among players and officials.

In a statement released by the club, Berekum Chelsea confirmed the attack and described the sequence of events.

“On our way back to Berekum from Samreboi, our team bus was attacked by a group of armed robbers who blocked the road to prevent our passage,” the club said.

The statement further detailed the intensity of the нападение.

“Masked men wielding guns and assault rifles started shooting at our bus as the driver tried to reverse. The players and staff fled into nearby bushes to take cover,” it added.

During the chaos, Dominic Frimpong was reportedly struck by gunfire. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The tragic death has sent shockwaves across Ghana’s football community, with clubs, players, and fans expressing grief over the loss of a promising athlete.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. The Ghana Police Service confirmed that a manhunt is underway to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Security experts say the incident underscores persistent safety challenges on some of Ghana’s highways, particularly in remote areas where armed robbery cases have been reported in recent years.

The Ghana Premier League has not yet issued an official statement, but sources indicate that discussions may be held regarding enhanced security arrangements for teams traveling for matches.

Meanwhile, Berekum Chelsea is expected to provide further updates, including funeral arrangements and tributes to the late player.

The killing of Dominic Frimpong marks one of the most tragic incidents in Ghanaian football in recent times, raising urgent concerns about the safety of teams and travelers on the country’s road network.
