Justin Koduah: I Will Work Tirelessly to Ensure Bawumia Wins the 2028 Election

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Koduah Frimpong, has declared that his greatest political ambition is to help Dr Mahamudu Bawumia win Ghana’s 2028 presidential election if he is re-elected as the party’s chief scribe.

Mr Koduah made the pledge on Monday, August 24, after officially filing his nomination to contest for another four-year term as NPP General Secretary at the party’s national headquarters in Accra.

The incumbent General Secretary said returning the NPP to government remains his overriding priority and promised delegates that he would spare no effort in rebuilding the party and strengthening its structures ahead of the next general election.

“It’s my dream, and it’s a dream backed with emotions and passion that I will never leave any stone unturned. I will work to make sure that our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, becomes President,” Mr Koduah said.

Seeking a fresh mandate

Justin Koduah is seeking re-election as General Secretary during the NPP’s upcoming national executive elections, where delegates will elect new national officers to lead the party into the 2028 electoral cycle.

Speaking after filing his nomination, he expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence they have placed in him over the past four years and pledged not to disappoint them if given another mandate.

He said his campaign would focus on his record, organisational achievements and plans for the future, rather than engaging in personal attacks against his opponents.

According to him, internal unity and effective party organisation will be essential if the NPP hopes to reclaim power after its defeat in the 2024 general election.

Bawumia remains the party’s flagbearer

Mr Koduah’s comments reaffirm his support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is leading the NPP’s efforts to return to government in 2028.

Bawumia has consistently called on party members to close ranks and work together, arguing that unity will be the party’s strongest weapon in the next election.

Addressing newly elected regional executives recently, the former Vice President urged members to embrace inclusion and avoid divisions that could weaken the party’s chances.

“2028 will require all hands on deck,” Bawumia told party executives, while reiterating his commitment to working with every stakeholder within the NPP.

Rebuilding after the 2024 defeat

The NPP has spent much of 2026 reorganising its national, regional and constituency structures following its loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

The party’s ongoing internal elections are widely viewed as a critical step toward rebuilding its grassroots machinery and preparing for another presidential contest.

As General Secretary, Justin Koduah oversees the party’s day-to-day administration, membership records, national coordination and election planning—making the position one of the most influential within the NPP.

Political analysts believe whoever occupies the office will play a significant role in shaping the party’s campaign strategy for 2028.

Campaign built on record, not insults

While announcing his re-election bid, Mr Koduah stressed that his campaign would remain issue-based and centred on service to the party.

He said delegates should judge him by his performance over the past term and by the vision he has for strengthening the NPP rather than by political rhetoric.

The General Secretary also pledged to continue working closely with Dr Bawumia and the party’s leadership to restore public confidence in the NPP.

Focus shifts to the 2028 elections

With the NPP’s internal elections gathering momentum, attention is increasingly turning toward the party’s long-term objective of regaining power in 2028.

Justin Koduah believes that objective begins with building a united and disciplined political organisation capable of reconnecting with Ghanaians across the country.

For now, his message to delegates is unmistakable: if re-elected as General Secretary, he will dedicate his next term to ensuring Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes Ghana’s next President.
