‘Not a single big musician showed up’ – Chef Faila bemoans

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has revealed she is disappointed “no big musician” in Ghana came to visit her while she embarked on her cooking marathon for Guinness World Record glory.

For 10 days, Chef Faila, as she is simply called, cooked for 227 hours. She had initially aimed for 5 days, seeking to break Irish chef Alan Fisher’s 119-hour-57-minute record from November 2023. She, however, added five more days to ensure it is “difficult” for anyone who, after her, ventures to break the record.

During her adventure at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, Chef Faila was visited by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former First Lady Lordina Mahama, comic star SDK Dele, movie stars Kwaku Manu and Yaw Dabo, social media influencer Naana Donkor Arthur, and celebrity cook Sweet Adjeley.

Among the live audience was also Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, who completed her five-day (126 hours, 52 minutes) Guinness World Record singing marathon in Accra, earlier in the last week of December 2023. Asantewaa flew to Tamale to support Chef Faila, sang and danced for her and even enjoyed the meals cooked.

Absent, much to chef Faila’s grief, were her favourite musicians to listen to and cover, as a singer herself.

She expressed her disappointment to Accra-based Joy Prime.

Chef Faila said: “If it was something bad about the North, everyone would have been talking about it. Not a single big musician showed up for North on this project. Not Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Samini, etc.

“It was Kwabena Kwabena who passed through. There were a lot of expectations that we were going to see some of the artists we support so much from this angle show up and support us. Believe me, if I see Stonebwoy or Shatta Wale’s song, I can sing it to amaze you, but nobody showed up for us, and so they owe us an apology.”

According to Faila, she is open to giving artists who apologise but they would also have to “proceed to the Ya Na (traditional authority) with a cow each before we can accept the apology”.

Reggae/Dancehall star Shatta Wale had indicated he would visit Chef Faila’s post but there is no evidence he kept his word.
