Andre Ayew Reveals Talks With Three Clubs as Ghana Legend Considers Next Move

Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew has revealed that he is currently in negotiations with two or three clubs as he weighs his next move following his departure from Dutch side NAC Breda.

The 36-year-old forward made the revelation during an appearance on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel in Accra.

Ayew, who remains a free agent after leaving NAC Breda during the summer transfer window, made it clear that he is not yet ready to retire from professional football.

“I’m currently negotiating with two or three clubs. We’ll see what’s best for my family and me. The kids are growing, so we need to think about them,” Ayew said.

Ayew still wants to play

Despite reaching the later stages of his career, Ayew says his desire to compete at the highest level remains intact.

The former Marseille, Swansea City and West Ham United attacker has continued to train and stay involved in football while in Ghana.

He has also been participating in matches in Legon, where FC Nania, the club founded by his father and Ghana football legend Abedi Pele, plays its home games.

His continued involvement on the pitch suggests that the former Black Stars captain is determined to secure another opportunity rather than immediately bring his professional career to an end.

Family now a major factor

While Ayew remains focused on finding a club, he acknowledged that his next decision will not be based solely on football.

The forward said his growing children and family circumstances will play an important role in determining where he continues his career.

That consideration could influence both the location and nature of any potential move, particularly as Ayew evaluates the offers currently available to him.

At this stage, however, he has not disclosed the identities of the clubs involved in the negotiations.

From player to football administrator

Beyond his playing career, Ayew also revealed that he has already taken steps towards a future in football administration.

The former Ghana captain disclosed that he has served as the Chief Executive Officer of FC Nania for several years.

“For a few years now, I’ve been CEO of FC Nania,” he said.

His admission highlights an increasingly important aspect of Ayew’s post-playing career, particularly given his family’s deep-rooted connection to Ghanaian football.

FC Nania was founded by his father, Abedi Pele, and has played a role in the development of football talent in Ghana.

Could Ayew enter GFA politics?

Ayew’s growing involvement in football administration has also sparked speculation about his possible future in the leadership of Ghanaian football.

Recent reports have linked the former Black Stars captain with a potential role in football administration, including suggestions that he could consider contesting the Ghana Football Association presidency in 2027.

However, Ayew’s immediate focus appears to remain on his playing career, with negotiations with potential clubs currently ongoing.

He has not publicly confirmed that he intends to contest the GFA presidency.

A career still going

Ayew has enjoyed an extensive career spanning some of Europe’s biggest leagues and clubs, while also becoming one of Ghana’s most prominent football figures of his generation.

For the Black Stars, he has carried the national captaincy and represented Ghana at multiple major international tournaments.

At 36, his latest comments suggest that retirement is not yet at the forefront of his plans.

Instead, Ayew is weighing his options, balancing his ambition to continue playing with the needs of his family and his growing responsibilities away from the pitch.

For now, Ghanaian football fans will have to wait to discover which of the clubs currently negotiating with the veteran forward will eventually secure his signature.
