Accra, Ghana — January 8, 2026
In a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and diasporic collaboration, the British High Commission in Accra hosted its fourth annual Diaspora New Year Networking Mixer under the theme “London to Accra: Creatives Takeover.” The event, held at the British High Commissioner’s residence, brought together approximately 600 guests, including British-Ghanaian entrepreneurs, creatives, business leaders, policymakers, and cultural figures.
The evening was more than a networking mixer — it was a showcase of the dynamic cultural bridges that connect London and Accra, two cities increasingly recognised as hubs of innovation and creative expression. The “Creatives Takeover” formed a key part of the broader London to Accra campaign, launched in July 2025 with the goal of strengthening social, cultural, and economic ties between the United Kingdom and Ghana through diaspora engagement.

A Fusion of Art, Music, and Fashion
Attendees experienced a rich blend of artistic expression across multiple disciplines:
Music performances from celebrated Ghanaian artists such as Sarkodie, Camidoh, Flava, and Mista Silva, accompanied by energetic sets from DJ Manny Norte, kept the atmosphere electric throughout the evening.

Fashion showcases featured designs by both London- and Accra-based creatives, including Sarah Boadu and The Revival, highlighting contemporary African identity shaped by diasporic influence.
Interactive exhibitions such as A Tale of Two Cities, a photography showcase by My Runway Group, and Archive Africa, a film series exploring Ghanaian life within the UK diaspora offered inspiring insights into the lived experiences and creative narratives of diasporans.

A cocktail-making experience by Afro Spirit blended West African flavours with modern mixology, reflecting the fusion of tradition and innovation that defines the London to Accra initiative.
Remarks from Leaders and Visionaries
The event featured remarks from dignitaries who stressed the importance of creativity as a bridge between nations:
H.E. Dr Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, highlighted how cultural exchange particularly through music and fashion strengthens ties and creates economic opportunities between the UK and Ghana.
Yussif Issaka Jajah, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, also emphasised the role of the arts in national identity and global collaboration.
Pamela Bassah, Head of Strategic Partnerships and Diaspora Relations at the British High Commission, noted that the “London to Accra” initiative is intended not just to celebrate creativity, but to unlock long-term partnerships and sustainable growth across cultural and economic sectors.

From Celebration to Economic Collaboration
The “Creatives Takeover” mixer capped off a series of activities within the London to Accra campaign. Earlier in the week, the London to Accra Economic Growth Summit was held at the Bank of Ghana, convening policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to explore practical pathways for diaspora-led investment and bilateral trade.
This strategic initiative positions the British-Ghanaian diaspora as a vital link in fostering cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, and shared prosperity. By integrating creative industries with broader economic development goals, the campaign reflects a new era of collaborative engagement between Accra and London.
Looking Ahead
The success of the “London to Accra: Creatives Takeover” event underscores the growing influence of British-Ghanaian talent on the global stage from music and fashion to film and entrepreneurship. As both cities continue to deepen their ties, such platforms of celebration and collaboration are helping to reshape how diaspora contributions are valued, not only culturally but economically and socially.
