Government to Fund Long-Term Flood Control Measures Under 2027 Budget – Ato Forson
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says the government will provide funding under the 2027 Budget and the medium-term expenditure framework for a comprehensive, long-term solution to recurring flooding in Accra and other flood-prone parts of Ghana.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, Dr Forson said President John Dramani Mahama had directed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to develop a permanent strategy to address the country’s recurring flooding crisis.
He said additional resources were being made available for ongoing dredging and the construction of critical drains in affected communities.
“On the direction of His Excellency the President, I am making available additional resources for ongoing dredging and construction of critical drains in the affected areas,” he told Parliament.
According to the Finance Minister, the broader funding required for a permanent flood-control solution would be incorporated into the 2027 Budget and the medium-term expenditure framework.
The announcement comes amid repeated flooding incidents in Accra and other urban centres, which have caused displacement, property damage and loss of life over the years.
