Kantanka Family Rejects Funeral Date Reports

ACCRA, Ghana — The family of the late Apostle Prof. Emeritus Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has dismissed widely circulated reports announcing dates for his burial and final funeral rites, urging Ghanaians to rely only on official communications.

In a statement issued on July 23, 2026, the Aduana (Kotoko) Royal Family said no official date has yet been approved for the burial of the renowned inventor, industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The clarification follows weeks of public speculation and the circulation of invitation cards, posters, flyers and social media announcements indicating that the funeral would take place on July 30, July 31 and August 8, 2026.

According to the family, none of those materials has been authorised.

“The Family has announced no official date for the burial and final funeral rites,” the statement said, adding that the approved programme will only be communicated after all necessary consultations have been completed. 

The family further explained that discussions are still ongoing to ensure that every aspect of the funeral reflects the wishes of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo while respecting family customs and the appropriate traditional and administrative protocols.

The statement appealed to media organisations and the general public to avoid sharing or acting on unverified information, warning that misinformation could create unnecessary confusion during preparations for the national farewell.

The latest clarification comes after months of differing public announcements surrounding the funeral programme. Earlier this year, separate dates were announced by different sections of the family, leading to uncertainty over when the celebrated industrialist would finally be laid to rest.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kantanka Group of Companies and the Kristo Asafo Mission, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential inventors and industrial pioneers. His contributions to automobile manufacturing, engineering innovation, agriculture and indigenous technology earned him national recognition and admiration across Africa.

Meanwhile, social media has been awash with various allegations surrounding the funeral arrangements. However, none of those claims has been confirmed by the official family statement, which insists that only authorised representatives of the family will announce the final funeral programme.

For now, the family says Ghanaians should disregard all unofficial funeral notices and await an official announcement in due course.
