Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show during the Corruption Watch segment, organised in collaboration with Transparency International, Dr Sowatey outlined key recommendations for addressing corruption vulnerabilities in Ghana’s defence sector.

His comments followed discussions on a report that assessed Ghana’s defence sector as being at high risk of corruption.

Dr Sowatey argued that reforms to the military budgeting process are necessary to improve transparency and accountability in the management of public funds allocated to national security.

He also called for stronger parliamentary oversight of defence-related expenditure and greater public understanding of the security sector.

According to him, improved scrutiny and institutional reforms could help reduce opportunities for corruption while strengthening public confidence in the management of defence resources.

The security analyst presented the recommendations as part of broader measures needed to address structural weaknesses within Ghana’s defence governance system.

The call for reforms places renewed attention on the balance between national security requirements and public accountability, particularly in a sector where financial oversight can be complicated by the sensitive nature of defence operations.
