Wontumi Appears in Court for Tano Nimiri Case While Serving 20-Year Prison Sentence
Jailed Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has appeared before the Accra High Court in connection with the separate Tano Nimiri illegal mining case while serving a 20-year prison sentence in the Samreboi case.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako was brought to court in a prison bus and escorted by prison officers after spending two nights in custody following his conviction and sentencing in the separate Samreboi illegal mining case.
His appearance marks his first court appearance in connection with the Tano Nimiri proceedings since beginning his custodial sentence.
The case involves separate allegations relating to illegal mining activities and forms part of ongoing legal proceedings against the former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman.
Mr Antwi-Boasiako was recently convicted on six counts relating to the unlawful assignment of mineral rights without ministerial authorisation and the facilitation of illegal mining activities. Akonta Mining Limited, the corporate entity linked to the case, was also convicted and fined separately.
The latest court appearance comes amid heightened public interest in the legal cases involving Mr Antwi-Boasiako, following his conviction and 20-year prison sentence in the Samreboi case.
The NPP has indicated its intention to pursue available legal avenues, while the court is expected to continue hearing the Tano Nimiri case as the parties present their respective arguments.
