Godfred Dame Challenges Validity of Hanan Abdul-Wahab’s Charge Sheet in Buffer Stock Case
Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has challenged the validity of the charge sheet in the criminal case involving Hanan Abdul-Wahab, arguing that the charges are fundamentally defective and fail to provide sufficient particulars for the accused to properly prepare a defence.

Mr Dame, who leads the legal team representing Hanan Abdul-Wahab, made the arguments before the Specialised Court One in an application seeking to have the entire charge sheet struck out.
The defence argued that the prosecution had improperly combined multiple transactions spanning several years into single charges, making it difficult to identify the specific acts allegedly constituting the offences.
According to the legal team, the prosecution’s own affidavit in opposition acknowledges the existence of several payments and transactions, a position the defence says supports its argument that the charges lack the necessary specificity.
The defence further argued that the same set of facts cannot properly sustain charges of both stealing and defrauding by false pretences without clearly identifying the essential elements of each alleged offence.
However, Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai opposed the application and maintained that the charges were clear and sufficiently understandable.
He argued that a charge sheet is intended to inform the accused of the case against him and is not required to contain the full details of the evidence the prosecution intends to present at trial.
Justice Francis Apanga Achibonga has adjourned the matter to July 23, 2026, for a ruling on the defence application.
The court’s decision could determine whether the charges proceed in their current form or whether the prosecution will be required to amend or reconsider aspects of the case.
