Islamic SHS shooting: top police chief sacked; two others interdicted
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare has sacked the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander of Police, Kwasi Akomeah-Apraku over the shooting incident that occurred at the Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo.
The two other police top chiefs interdicted are Mr. George Ankomah, the Regional Operations Officers, and Mr. Alex Cudjoe Acquah, the Suame Divisional Commander.
This follows IGP Dampare’s visit to the school for first-hand information on the disturbance some demonstrating students leading to the injury of over 30 students and police officers.
According to the police, the students went on a demonstration over alleged frequent accidents in front of their school but blocked the road in the process. In an attempt to disperse the students to clear the road, the student starts pelting stones leading to the police having to use pepper spray and fire warning shots.
The Police statement also said though no of the students were hit by the live bullets, its administration believe that the handling of the situation by its officers was poor.
In recent times, the country has been recording a series of police shootings to disperse crowds in most instances leading to loss of lives. Notable among these incidences were in Akatsi, Tamale, and Nkoranza.
