Interior Ministry Alerts Greater Accra Residents to Flood Risk Ahead of Forecast Rainfall

By Boakye Stephen, Kumasi, Ghana | Reporting for Ghanaian News, Canada | July 6,2026

The Ministry of the Interior has issued a weather advisory cautioning residents of the Greater Accra Region to prepare for possible flooding following forecasts of moderate rainfall.

According to the alert circulated on Sunday evening, rainfall was expected between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Monday, with a 40 per cent probability of occurrence.

The Ministry warned that low-lying communities could be vulnerable to flooding and encouraged residents to take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.

The advisory also urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, stressing that rising water levels could present serious dangers.

The warning follows recent heavy rains that affected several communities across Greater Accra, causing damage to homes, displacing residents and renewing calls for stronger flood prevention measures.

Authorities continue to encourage the public to monitor official weather updates and cooperate with emergency response agencies whenever severe weather conditions are anticipated.
