The Canada–Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CANChAM) has officially launched activities to commemorate its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Canada and Ghana. The milestone was unveiled at a media launch held in Accra on the 26th of January 2026 at the The Plsam by Eagles, bringing together business leaders, partners, and stakeholders from both countries.

Delivering the keynote address, President of the Ghanaian Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Nii Odoi Yemoh, described the anniversary as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to deepening bilateral partnerships.

“It is a privilege to address you today as President of the Ghanaian Canadian Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate 10 Years of Impact: Canada–Ghana Partnership in Action,” he said.

A Decade of Strengthened Bilateral Ties

Mr. Odio noted that the Chamber’s 10-year journey reflects the strength of shared values, resilience, and dedication of leaders and institutions that have worked tirelessly to promote cultural, social, and economic development between the two countries.

Over the past decade, he explained, partnerships between Canada and Ghana have significantly expanded, creating new opportunities and empowering the Ghanaian–Canadian business community. As the Chamber marks this milestone, its focus remains firmly on the future.

“As we mark this anniversary, we look ahead with purpose—committed to deepening collaboration, fostering innovation, and creating lasting opportunities for future generations,” he stated.

Supporting SMEs to Grow and Compete Globally

Central to the Chamber’s mission, according to Mr. Odio, is ensuring that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are well-positioned to grow, expand, and compete effectively in both the Ghanaian and Canadian markets.

He highlighted that the Chamber provides entrepreneurs with education and advisory services aimed at helping businesses become compliant, investment-ready, and aligned with regulatory requirements in both countries. These services include guidance on governance, financial reporting, and access to government programs, grants, and financing.

The Chamber also plays a critical role in helping businesses navigate government loans and incentive programs, by connecting them with the right agencies, financial institutions, and development partners.

“Through targeted workshops, one-on-one advisory support, and strategic partnerships, we help businesses prepare strong applications and align with policy and funding priorities,” Mr. Odio explained.

Driving Innovation, Sustainability, and Market Access

Beyond access to capital, the President emphasized that CanCham supports business growth and scale through mentorship, market linkages, and trade connections. The Chamber assists businesses in identifying export opportunities, meeting international standards, and adopting sustainable and climate-smart practices.

Mr. Odio also stressed the importance of leveraging digital tools to improve productivity and competitiveness, noting that the Chamber’s goal extends beyond supporting start-ups.

“Our goal is not just to support start-ups, but to build resilient businesses positioned for long-term success,” he said.

A Call for Collaboration and Policy Support

Looking ahead, Mr. Odio called for stronger collaboration between the private sector, policymakers, and development partners to create a more enabling business environment.

He underscored the need to strengthen policies that promote innovation, streamline trade processes through digital facilitation, and support international standards and certification, which are essential for global competitiveness.

“This is our call to action. Together, let us build on this legacy, strengthen our partnerships, and continue creating meaningful impact across our communities,” he urged.

Looking to the Future

The 10th anniversary media launch sets the tone for a year of commemorative activities by the Canada–Ghana Chamber of Commerce, as it reaffirms its commitment to fostering inclusive growth, sustainable trade, and mutually beneficial economic relations between Ghana and Canada.

Mr. Odio concluded his address by thanking stakeholders for their continued support and dedication to the Chamber’s vision.

The Canada–Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CANCHAM) is a private-sector–led, non-profit organization established to promote, facilitate, and strengthen trade and investment relations between Canada and Ghana. Since its inception, the Chamber has served as a vital bridge connecting businesses, investors, policymakers, and development partners from both countries.

CANCHAM operates as a trusted platform for dialogue, collaboration, and market access, helping businesses navigate opportunities and challenges across diverse sectors including energy, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, technology, education, and professional services.

Through its advocacy work, the Chamber engages government institutions and regulatory bodies to improve the business environment, promote policy reforms, and support initiatives that enhance ease of doing business and cross-border trade.

Over the years, CANCHAM has also positioned itself as a key resource for market intelligence, offering its members insights into regulatory frameworks, investment trends, and emerging opportunities in both Ghana and Canada. By organizing trade missions, business forums, networking events, and capacity-building workshops, the Chamber has helped foster partnerships that translate into tangible economic outcomes.

A core pillar of the Chamber’s work is its commitment to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Recognizing SMEs as engines of economic growth and job creation, CANCHAM provides tailored support to help them scale sustainably, access financing, meet international standards, and compete in global markets.

In addition, the Chamber promotes sustainable and responsible business practices, encouraging members to align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, climate-smart solutions, and digital transformation as part of long-term competitiveness.

As it celebrates a decade of impact, the Canada–Ghana Chamber of Commerce continues to reaffirm its vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking trade relationship between Canada and Ghana—one that delivers shared prosperity and meaningful development for businesses and communities in both countries.
