Doctors at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital have withdrawn their services following escalating concerns over patient safety and professional working conditions, marking a major disruption in one of Ghana’s key referral hospitals.

The action, confirmed by the Korle-Bu Doctors Association (KODA), officially took effect on May 2, after internal deliberations over what members describe as unresolved systemic challenges affecting healthcare delivery.

In a statement, the association stressed that the decision was not taken lightly but was necessary to protect both patients and medical professionals.

“KODA does not take this step lightly. It is taken in the interest of patient safety, professional integrity, and the long-term effectiveness of this institution,” the statement said.

The group is calling on hospital management to respond swiftly and address the concerns raised, warning that delays could worsen healthcare delivery pressures.

“We trust that Management will act with the urgency that these matters demand,” the association added.
