President John Dramani Mahama has called for stronger commitment to stability, unity, and economic cooperation across Africa, stressing that the continent’s future depends on collective progress rather than isolated national success.

Speaking at the Africa Heritage Awards held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, the President underscored the importance of preserving Africa’s cultural identity while advancing sustainable development.

Addressing an audience of policymakers, cultural leaders, and industry stakeholders, Mahama highlighted the deep interconnectedness of African economies and societies, noting that instability in one country often has ripple effects across the region.

He emphasized that African nations must prioritize internal stability, sound governance, and economic resilience to safeguard long-term growth and prosperity.

According to the President, Africa’s development cannot be achieved in isolation, as the fortunes of individual countries are closely tied to the broader health of the continent.

Mahama pointed to the need for stronger regional cooperation, particularly within frameworks such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to address shared challenges including economic volatility, migration pressures, and security threats.

He further stressed that cultural heritage remains a vital asset for Africa, serving as both a unifying force and a foundation for innovation and global engagement.

The Africa Heritage Awards, which celebrates excellence and contributions across the continent, provided a platform not only for recognition but also for reflection on Africa’s direction in a rapidly changing global environment.

Mahama urged leaders to adopt forward-looking policies that strengthen institutions, empower youth, and promote inclusive growth, warning that failure to do so could hinder the continent’s progress.

He also called for deliberate investment in African-led solutions, emphasizing that sustainable development must be driven by local knowledge, values, and priorities.

Participants at the event welcomed the President’s remarks, describing them as a timely reminder of the need for unity and shared responsibility in navigating Africa’s challenges.

The ceremony concluded with awards presented to individuals and organizations recognized for their contributions to cultural preservation, leadership, and development across the continent.

Mahama’s address reinforced a central message of the event—that Africa’s strength lies in its unity, stability, and ability to harness its rich heritage for future growth.
