Veteran Ghanaian music producer Appietus has levelled serious allegations against highlife star Ofori Amponsah, claiming the singer betrayed fellow musician Barosky by failing to honour a promised Netflix opportunity that could have transformed his career.

The allegations come as Barosky’s heartbreaking story continues to dominate Ghana’s entertainment industry after the musician revealed he is homeless and stranded in the United Kingdom, surviving without stable shelter, food or basic necessities.

Speaking in an interview, Appietus alleged that Barosky’s relationship with Ofori Amponsah deteriorated after the latter allegedly sidelined him from an international project despite earlier assurances that they would work together.

A broken promise?

According to Appietus, Barosky sacrificed several opportunities because he trusted Ofori Amponsah’s promises of helping him secure greater exposure in the music industry.

The producer claimed one of those opportunities involved a proposed Netflix-related project, which Barosky reportedly believed would elevate his career internationally.

Appietus alleged that the project never materialised for Barosky because Ofori Amponsah failed to fulfil the commitment made to him.

He argued that the disappointment marked the beginning of the singer’s emotional and professional struggles.

Barosky’s heartbreaking situation

Barosky recently moved Ghanaians to tears after disclosing that he had become homeless in the UK.

In an emotional interview with broadcaster Nana Romeo, the former hiplife star said he had been sleeping on the streets, struggling to find food and sometimes going days without bathing because of his circumstances.

The revelation prompted an outpouring of sympathy from musicians, broadcasters and fans, with several public figures calling for support to help him return to Ghana.

His story has also reignited conversations about how some former Ghanaian music stars have been neglected after their years of success.

A relationship that dates back two decades

The tension between Ofori Amponsah and Barosky is not entirely new.

The two musicians rose to prominence together in the early 2000s, collaborating with Kofi Nti on several hit songs, including the hugely successful Otoolege.

In 2006, Barosky publicly accused Ofori Amponsah of cheating him financially and breaching promises to produce his solo album, claiming he was never adequately compensated for his contributions to their successful collaborations.

Those old disputes have resurfaced following Appietus’ latest allegations.

Ofori Amponsah yet to respond

As of publication, Ofori Amponsah has not publicly responded to Appietus’ latest claims regarding the alleged Netflix deal.

The allegations therefore remain Appietus’ account of events and have not been independently verified.

The renewed controversy has nevertheless intensified public interest in the circumstances surrounding Barosky’s decline and the responsibilities of senior figures within Ghana’s music industry.

Industry reflects on supporting its own

Barosky’s plight has become more than the story of one struggling musician.

It has evolved into a wider conversation about mentorship, loyalty and the welfare of veteran artistes after fame fades.

Many industry stakeholders have argued that Ghana’s creative sector needs stronger structures to support musicians facing financial hardship, mental health challenges and career decline.

For Appietus, the tragedy is deeply personal.

He believes Barosky possessed exceptional talent and that opportunities lost through broken trust contributed significantly to the difficult situation the musician finds himself in today.

As Ghanaians continue rallying behind Barosky, the allegations against Ofori Amponsah are likely to fuel further debate over one of the country’s most talked-about stories in the entertainment industry.
