The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the Akufo-Addo–Bawumia administration invested over GH₵550 million into flood control and drainage infrastructure across Ghana.
According to NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah, the funds were used for major works including drainage rehabilitation, river dredging, and flood mitigation projects in flood-prone areas.
He referenced key projects such as the Odaw River dredging, Achimota-Abofu drainage works, South Kaneshie drainage improvements, and the Busia Highway drainage project.
Ahiagbah also pointed to the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project, describing it as a major long-term intervention aimed at reducing flooding in the capital.
However, he argued that some of these projects appear to have slowed down under the current administration, stressing that flood management requires consistent maintenance and continuity rather than political changes.
His comments come amid renewed public concern as parts of Accra continue to experience flooding after heavy rainfall, raising fresh questions about urban planning and drainage enforcement.
