Member of Parliament for Gushegu, Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, has declared that same-sex marriage will never be legalized in Ghana, reaffirming support for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill currently under national discussion.
Addressing delegates at the Fourth Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values in Accra, the lawmaker said Ghana remains committed to preserving its cultural and religious traditions.
“I want to assure you, it will never happen. A man will never marry a man here in Ghana, and a woman will never marry a woman here in Ghana.”
Mr. Tampuli, a co-sponsor of the bill, said Ghana’s legislative approach reflects what supporters consider deeply rooted social and family values.
The conference also heard remarks from Moses Foh-Amoaning, Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, who urged lawmakers across Africa to carefully examine arguments surrounding LGBTQ rights and international law.
The legislation continues to generate intense debate domestically and internationally, with supporters emphasizing cultural values and critics raising concerns about human rights implications.

The conference demonstrates how discussions about family values, constitutional rights, and social policy continue to shape political discourse across Africa. Regardless of individual positions, the issue remains one of the most significant legislative and cultural debates currently unfolding on the continent, with implications extending beyond national borders into diplomacy, governance, and human rights discussions.
