The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate has strongly condemned the alleged assault of a midwife at Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, describing the incident as an unacceptable attack on a healthcare professional performing her duties.
According to officials, the incident occurred after the midwife attempted to enforce the facility’s visiting-hours policy and requested visitors to leave the ward.
The Directorate said the confrontation escalated unexpectedly, resulting in an alleged physical assault.
In a statement, health authorities emphasized their support for the affected worker.
“The staff member, a midwife, was attacked by a patient’s family member while enforcing the facility’s visiting hours policy. The attack was unprovoked.”
Officials stressed that healthcare workers must be able to perform their duties without fear of intimidation or violence.
The Directorate also praised the Ghana Police Service for responding swiftly and restoring order at the facility.

Violence against healthcare workers has become a growing concern in many countries. Medical professionals often operate in high-pressure environments where emotions run high, particularly during emergencies. However, health experts argue that maintaining safe working conditions is essential for quality healthcare delivery, as intimidation and violence can undermine staff morale and patient care.
