Ghanaian football star André Ayew has returned to top-flight European football after completing a move to Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda. The 36-year-old signed a free-transfer contract that runs until the end of the 2025/26 season, giving him a fresh opportunity in Europe’s competitive league.

Ayew had been without a club since leaving Le Havre in the summer of 2025, but now brings his vast experience to NAC Breda, who are fighting to remain in the Eredivisie.

The Ghanaian international has been one of the most decorated players in African football, with more than 120 appearances for the Black Stars and spells at clubs including Olympique Marseille, Swansea City and West Ham United.

On joining Breda, Ayew explained he relishes new challenges and wants to help his teammates in their battle to avoid relegation, highlighting the importance of team spirit and mental strength as the club looks to secure its top-flight status.

NAC’s technical director, Peter Maas, praised Ayew’s professionalism and believes his leadership and quality will benefit the team during a crucial stage of the season. There’s also an option in Ayew’s deal for an extra year, depending on how the campaign unfolds.

With this move, Ayew adds another chapter to his long career and keeps alive the possibility of impressing and maybe earning national team consideration ahead of major future tournaments.
