The High Court (Commercial Division) in Accra has enforced a foreign judgment from the High Court of England and Wales, ordering Ghanaian businessman and 2024 presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, to pay more than US$14.9 million in judgment debt, interest and legal costs to Cola Holdings Limited, a company based in the United Kingdom.

According to a notice published in the Daily Graphic on January 22, 2026, the original judgment was delivered on January 23, 2025, by Deputy Master Sabic KC of the English High Court, with subsequent variations granted in March and April 2025. Cola Holdings Limited formally registered this judgment in Ghana on May 20, 2025, after applying to have the English court’s decision recognized and enforced locally.

Under the Accra High Court ruling, Mr. Bediako is required to pay a principal judgment debt of US$14,928,314.70, plus interest at 8 per cent per annum calculated from January 23, 2025, until the debt is fully paid. As of December 23, 2025, the accrued interest alone totalled US$1,092,834.64, significantly increasing the overall liability.

In addition to the principal amount and interest, the court awarded GH₵15,000 in legal costs to Cola Holdings Limited. Based on the current Treasury exchange rate of GH₵16.15 to one US dollar, the total amount due including interest and costs is estimated at approximately GH₵258.76 million. This sum is expected to continue increasing as interest accumulates until full payment is made.

Due to challenges in serving the judgment personally, the court also granted an order for substituted service, allowing the judgment to be served by:

  • Posting copies at Mr. Bediako’s residence at 13 Avenue Lincoln, Osu,

  • Placing the notice on the High Court notice board, and

  • Publishing it once in the Daily Graphic newspaper.
The posted notices are required to remain visible for seven days.

The enforcement of this judgment marks a significant legal development for Mr. Bediako a well-known real estate developer and political figure and highlights the reach of foreign judgments once registered in Ghana.
