NPP MPs Call on President Akufo Addo to Sack Ken Ofori Atta over Bad Economy

The Majority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has called on the President to dismiss his Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta and the Minister of State at the Presidency in Charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen over the worsening economic situation in the country.

According to them, the appalling economic situation in the country calls for a new pair of hands to handle the economy and to bring back some confidence.
They have served notice not be part of the government’s upcoming budget for 2023 if their request is not heeded to.

This was made known to the public at a press conference held in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, addressed by MP for Asante Akim South, Andy Appiah Kubi on behalf of the Minority Caucus.

Speaking on behalf of 80 of the 137 NPP members, Andy Appiah-Kubi said the members of parliament would not take part in any business of government and would boycott budget hearings until its demands are met.

Parliament is set to begin debating the 2023 budget in the coming days.

“We have voiced our concerns to the president…without any positive response,” Appiah-Kubi said. “Until such persons are made to resign or otherwise removed from office, we…will not participate in any business of government.”

Over 80 Members of the Governing Party Members of Parliament are said to have signed a document in support of the dismissal of the Finance Minister.
