Akwatia Member of Parliament Bernard Bediako Baidoo has urged Ghanaians to focus on child protection as discussions continue over proposed age-verification measures for accessing adult content online.
The comments follow public debate surrounding plans being considered by the Ministry of Communications to introduce age-verification requirements for pornography websites.
Mr. Baidoo argued that criticism of the proposal may be premature, noting that the full framework has not yet been publicly presented.
“The minister spoke in context, and essentially, if I heard him right, it had to do with the protection of, especially, our children. That must be emphasised.”
He stressed that protecting minors from explicit online material is a shared responsibility and encouraged stakeholders to assess the final policy details before reaching conclusions.

The debate reflects the difficult balance between child online safety, digital privacy rights, and practical enforcement. As governments worldwide grapple with similar concerns, Ghana’s eventual approach could become a significant test case for digital regulation in West Africa.
