A Ghanaian woman is reportedly receiving intensive medical treatment after an alleged violent assault in South Africa.
According to Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quarshie, the incident occurred after a dispute involving documentation requests at the woman’s business premises.
Quarshie alleged:
“There’s a Ghanaian who has been in the ICU until now, beaten to a pulp by these South Africans.”
He explained that the woman allegedly complied when asked to produce documentation but was later confronted with demands for money, which she refused.
The diplomat indicated that the incident partly explains Ghana’s ongoing efforts to facilitate voluntary repatriation for nationals who wish to return home.
South African authorities have not publicly commented on the allegation, and independent verification remains pending.

Regardless of the final findings, reports of attacks on foreign nationals continue to raise concerns about xenophobia in parts of South Africa. Diplomatic engagement, transparent investigations, and stronger protections for migrant communities will remain essential in preventing further escalation and maintaining regional cooperation.
