FIFA Icon Asamoah Gyan Brings Global Attention to Edmonton During GED Summit 2026

The Global Economic Diversification (GED) Summit 2026 welcomed international football legend and entrepreneur Asamoah Gyan to Edmonton as the official Global Goodwill Ambassador of the Global Economic Diversification Council (GED Council).
Asamoah Gyan’s presence brought significant international visibility, cultural engagement, and youth inspiration to the Summit and the City of Edmonton. Throughout his visit, the former FIFA World Cup star actively participated in several strategic and community-focused engagements designed to promote economic collaboration, leadership, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.

During the Summit, Gyan delivered special remarks highlighting the importance of economic diversification, youth development, entrepreneurship, and sports investment opportunities. He also participated in networking engagements with business leaders, policymakers, investors, and international delegates attending GED Summit 2026.
One of the highlights of his visit was his engagement with Edmonton youth through the GED Council Soccer Clinic held on May 16th. The clinic provided young participants with the rare opportunity to train directly with one of Africa’s most celebrated football icons while learning valuable lessons about discipline, leadership, teamwork, and perseverance both on and off the field.
In addition to his participation at the Summit, Asamoah Gyan also took part in diplomatic and community engagements, including a special visit to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. His visit helped strengthen conversations around cultural diplomacy, global partnerships, sports entrepreneurship, and international collaboration.
According to GED Council organizers, Asamoah Gyan’s role as Global Goodwill Ambassador extends beyond sports. His influence and global network are being leveraged to help advance GED Council’s vision of promoting inclusive economic growth, international partnerships, investment attraction, youth empowerment, and future-ready economies.
GED Summit 2026 brought together global leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, innovators, investors, and community organizations to explore practical solutions in economic diversification, AI adoption, workforce transformation, trade expansion, and investment attraction.
The Summit continues to position Edmonton as a growing hub for international dialogue, innovation, and global economic collaboration.
