The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has reduced electricity tariffs by 4.81% and water tariffs by 3.06%, effective April 1.
According to the Commission, the adjustments reflect “movements in the exchange rate… the domestic inflation rate… and the cost of fuel, mainly natural gas, used in thermal power generation.”
The Commission added that the changes are part of efforts to ensure tariffs remain responsive to economic conditions.
Commentary:
This looks like relief, but the bigger picture matters. If fuel and transport costs keep rising, this reduction may not be felt in real terms. It is a technical adjustment, not a transformative one.
Suame Interchange Project to Resume After Government Clears Debts
The Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that work on the Suame Interchange Project will resume next week after government settled outstanding payments.
The Minister stated that contractors are expected to fully mobilize to site in the coming days to continue construction.
He expressed appreciation for public patience and reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving infrastructure.
Commentary:
Resumption is good, but completion is what matters. Ghana has a history of starting projects and delaying them. The real test is whether this project will move steadily to completion without another interruption.
