Structural Uncertainty: La Beach Towers Among High-Risk Buildings Under National Review

By Boakye Stephen, Kumasi, Ghana | Reporting for Ghanaian News, Canada March 30, 2026

Authorities have begun technical assessments of several potentially unsafe structures across Accra, with the abandoned La Beach Towers project among those under review.

Engineer Isaac Badu, Registrar of the Engineering Council, disclosed this during an interview on Joy FM, noting that engagements with developers are already underway.

“We’ve had meetings with the developers and consultants, and we are assessing it. Once we complete our assessment, we will make recommendations,” he said.

He added:

“When there is activity and the need arises to investigate, we assess… If we establish that they are unsafe, then action is taken.”

The development follows renewed concerns after the Accra Newtown building collapse.

Analysis: Monuments of Neglect

La Beach Towers is more than an abandoned luxury project, it symbolizes a broader national issue of stalled development and regulatory gaps.

Across Ghana, incomplete structures remain unmonitored, often becoming hazards over time. The reactive nature of inspections, triggered mostly after incidents, reveals a system that responds to danger rather than preventing it.

If Ghana is to avoid future tragedies, building regulation must evolve from periodic assessment to continuous enforcement.
