Global Media Alliance (GMA), in partnership with Japan Motors, has officially launched the 16th edition of the Corporate Run & Walk, renewing its commitment to promoting healthier workplaces while raising funds to support persons living with visual impairment across Ghana.

The annual five-kilometre charity event is scheduled for September 21, 2026, in commemoration of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, and will be held simultaneously in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Northern regions.

Now in its 16th year, the Corporate Run & Walk has evolved into one of Ghana’s most impactful corporate social responsibility initiatives, bringing together businesses, institutions and individuals to promote fitness, networking and social inclusion.

A platform for health, unity and inclusion

Speaking at the launch, Ernest Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance, said the initiative began as a simple idea to unite Corporate Ghana through exercise but has since grown into a powerful movement that improves lives.

“This initiative started with a simple idea—to bring Corporate Ghana together to promote health, build stronger connections and support a meaningful cause. Today, it has become a platform that demonstrates how businesses can come together to improve lives while investing in the wellbeing of their people,” Mr. Boateng said.

He explained that the event is built on the values of health, unity and inclusion, adding that 25% of all proceeds from this year’s event will once again be donated to the Ghana Blind Union (GBU) to support programmes that improve the lives of visually impaired persons.

Supporting mobility for the visually impaired

This year’s charity focus will fund the provision of tandem bicycles and other mobility support equipment for persons living with visual impairment.

According to organisers, improved mobility is essential to helping visually impaired people achieve greater independence, dignity and access to opportunities.

The Ghana Blind Union, one of Ghana’s largest disability advocacy organisations, currently has branches across all 16 regions and works to promote education, rehabilitation, advocacy and equal opportunities for blind and partially sighted persons.

A race of impact’

Executive Director of Lakeside Estate and Silver Star Tower, Salah Kwaku Kalmoni, described the Corporate Run & Walk as far more than a sporting event.

He said its success over the past sixteen years has been driven by its social mission rather than competition.

“For sixteen years, this has never been simply a race with a charity attached to it. It has been a charity supported through a race. Every contribution helps restore dignity, independence and opportunity to persons living with visual impairment because, as we always say, mobility is freedom,” he said.

Mr. Kalmoni also introduced participants to the event’s ‘Personal Best (PB)’ concept, encouraging runners to compete against their own previous performances rather than against others.

“You are not running against anyone; you are running for yourself. It is about achieving your personal best. We do not run only for lifestyle—we run to make an impact and contribute meaningfully to society,” he added.

Japan Motors reaffirms 16-year partnership

The Marketing Manager of Japan Motors, Mabel Offei, reaffirmed the company’s long-standing support for the initiative, describing the partnership as a reflection of the company’s commitment to giving back to society.

“Japan Motors is proud to continue supporting this initiative because it aligns with our commitment to improving lives. We encourage organisations and individuals to join this year’s event, knowing that every registration and every sponsorship contribute to a worthy cause while promoting healthier workplaces,” she said.

Japan Motors has partnered Global Media Alliance on the event for more than a decade, helping transform the Corporate Run & Walk into one of Ghana’s leading charity fitness events.

Corporate Ghana invited to participate

Organisers are encouraging corporate institutions to register teams as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes, while individual participants are also welcome.

The registration fee has been set at GH¢100 per person, with tickets available at Silver Star Tower offices in Accra, Takoradi, Kumasi and Tamale. Registration forms can also be obtained from the Global Media Alliance office in Dzorwulu, Happy FM, YFM, Silverbird Cinemas and through the Run Ghana social media platforms.

The event is expected to attract thousands of participants from both the public and private sectors.

More than a race

Since its inception, the Corporate Run & Walk has consistently combined workplace wellness with charitable giving, creating a unique platform where businesses can network while contributing to meaningful social causes.

Over the years, proceeds from the event have supported the Ghana Blind Union through various interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of visually impaired Ghanaians.

As preparations begin for the September 21 event, organisers say their goal is not only to encourage healthier lifestyles but also to inspire Corporate Ghana to invest in inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunities for persons living with visual impairment.

With thousands expected to participate across four regions, the 16th Corporate Run & Walk is set to once again demonstrate how sport, business and philanthropy can come together to create lasting social impact.
