The incident happened during celebrations connected to the AfroFuture Festival at El-Wak Stadium on December 28, 2025, when a video went viral showing a man, Abubakari Sadick, also known as “Cyborg”, firing a gun into the air.

Cyborg was arrested on December 29 by the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department for unlawfully possessing and discharging a firearm. Police also recovered the weapon used in the act.

On December 30, at the Supercar Spectacle Sponsors Appreciation event in Accra, Asake met President Mahama and attempted to intervene, asking the President to show mercy because the gunfire, he said, was done in a moment of excitement.

President Mahama acknowledged Asake’s appeal but responded firmly, saying: “Don’t worry about it. The law is the law.” He stressed that no special treatment would be given and that due process must be followed.

The exchange, captured on video and widely shared online, also briefly amused those present when President Mahama jokingly asked if the singer was the person the gunshots were fired for.

Authorities have used the episode to remind the public that even licensed firearms must not be discharged recklessly, especially at crowded events.
