Shock in Volta Region as Grave Robbers Allegedly Steal Corpse from Cemetery

Residents of Adevukope in the Ketu North Municipality have been left in shock following the reported theft of a corpse from a local cemetery.

The incident was reported by Assembly Member Johnson Dotsey Mensah, who alerted police after receiving information that graves at the cemetery had been tampered with.

Police investigations revealed that the grave of Esi Havor Deku, 67, had been forcibly opened and the remains removed.

Authorities also discovered that another grave belonging to Akakpo Agbobli, 93, had been disturbed, although the body remained inside the coffin.

Investigators found pieces of clothing believed to belong to the deceased woman scattered around the damaged burial site.

The motive behind the alleged grave robbery remains unknown.

District Crime Officer ASP Emmanuel Habada and other officers visited the scene and have commenced investigations.

The incident has generated widespread concern among residents, many of whom are demanding enhanced security around burial grounds.

Cases involving stolen human remains are rare but often provoke deep cultural and emotional reactions. Such incidents can undermine community confidence and raise concerns about possible ritual-related crimes.
