NPP Raises Alarm Over Abronye DC’s Health, Warns Authorities of Legal Responsibility in Detention Case

The New Patriotic Party has expressed concern over the health condition of its Bono Regional Chairman, Abronye DC, who is currently in custody under the Bureau of National Intelligence.

Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed says the party is worried about the adequacy of medical care being provided while the politician remains in detention.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, he stressed that authorities are legally responsible for the welfare of individuals in custody, especially those with known medical conditions following surgery.

He warned that any deterioration in Abronye’s health could carry legal consequences.

“As a layman, I cannot tell you the condition of Abronye DC, but this must be done by a certified physician, who will be able to tell. But you should know that if somebody has gone through surgery and does not take the drugs, something else can happen.

And if anything happens to him, we will charge security officers for murder,” he said.

His comments come amid concerns raised by legal representatives questioning the conditions of detention and alleged health deterioration.

Mr Mohammed stated that Abronye underwent surgery outside Ghana and requires consistent medication as part of his recovery process.

He insisted that detention does not remove the obligation of security agencies to provide adequate healthcare and monitoring.

He further called for urgent medical assessment to ensure proper treatment is administered without delay.

This is a politically sensitive custodial health issue. The strong language raises pressure on security agencies, but also risks escalating political tension around an ongoing detention matter.
