John Boadu Pledges Disability Inclusion as Hallmark of His NPP Chairmanship Bid
Former NPP General Secretary promises to make persons with disabilities central to party leadership, governance and grassroots participation if elected National Chairman

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu has unveiled disability inclusion as one of the defining pillars of his campaign for the party’s National Chairmanship, promising to ensure that persons with disabilities (PWDs) are fully represented in the NPP’s leadership and decision-making structures.
Addressing party delegates and supporters during his campaign, Boadu said the NPP must become a political party that genuinely reflects the diversity of Ghanaian society by creating equal opportunities for every member, regardless of physical ability.
“A strong political party is one that leaves no one behind. Persons with disabilities deserve meaningful participation, not symbolic representation,” Boadu said.
Inclusion beyond campaign promises
According to Boadu, disability inclusion should not be treated as a charitable gesture but as a fundamental principle of democratic leadership.
He pledged to introduce policies that would encourage greater participation of persons with disabilities in constituency, regional and national party activities, while ensuring that party programmes and events become more accessible.
His vision includes expanding opportunities for qualified persons with disabilities to serve on party committees, leadership structures and campaign teams.
Building a more representative NPP
The former General Secretary believes the NPP’s rebuilding process ahead of the 2028 general elections must involve every segment of society.
He argued that the party cannot successfully reconnect with Ghanaians unless it intentionally embraces women, youth and persons with disabilities as active partners in shaping its future.
Boadu also promised to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, improve internal democracy and restore unity within the party as part of his broader blueprint for returning the NPP to government.
Disability advocates welcome the commitment
Representatives of disability advocacy groups have welcomed Boadu’s emphasis on inclusion, describing it as an important step toward ensuring that political parties move beyond rhetoric and create genuine leadership opportunities for persons with disabilities.
They say meaningful inclusion requires accessible meeting venues, equal participation in party elections, leadership training and the removal of barriers that often prevent PWDs from engaging fully in political life.
Race for National Chairman intensifies
John Boadu is among the leading contenders in the highly competitive race for the NPP’s National Chairmanship, with delegates expected to elect new national executives as the party reorganises following its 2024 electoral defeat.
Throughout his campaign, Boadu has focused on party unity, institutional reforms and grassroots rebuilding. His latest pledge positions disability inclusion as a signature policy that he says will distinguish his leadership and help build a more representative and compassionate New Patriotic Party.
