An Accra High Court has temporarily halted the funeral and burial arrangements of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo SafoKantanka, following a legal dispute over who has the authority to oversee the final rites of the renowned industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The court granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, from proceeding with the funeral programme that had been scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026.
The application was brought before the court by the KristoAsafo Mission, which is seeking judicial intervention over issues relating to the late founder’s estate and the implementation of his final wishes.
Speaking after the ruling, counsel for the Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, explained that the court’s order temporarily suspends all funeral-related activities being undertaken by Mrs. Adwoa Safo until the matter returns before the court for further determination.
The dispute reflects an ongoing disagreement within the Safofamily regarding who possesses the legal and customary authority to organise the burial of Apostle Kwadwo SafoKantanka, whose contributions to engineering, manufacturing, education and religious leadership have earned him national recognition.
With the injunction now in force, all planned funeral activities are expected to remain on hold pending further judicial proceedings.
The court is expected to hear additional arguments from the parties before deciding whether the injunction should be extended or lifted.
