22 OCTOBER 2026
Ghana’s entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following reports of the death of veteran actor, comedian and broadcaster Seth Kwame Dzokoto, popularly known as Kwame Dzokoto.
Dzokoto reportedly died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after collapsing during a live panel discussion at Owass Radio in Tarkwa in the Western Region.
According to Citi Newsroom, the entertainer was rushed to a hospital in Tarkwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A close source of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the political party with which he was affiliated, reportedly confirmed the news.
Further details surrounding the circumstances of his death had not emerged at the time of publication. His medical cause of death has also not been publicly established.
The news comes just weeks after Dzokoto addressed rumours about his health, insisting during a media interview in September that he was alive and recovering following earlier health challenges.
What happened during the radio discussion?
Reports indicate that Dzokoto was participating in a panel discussion at Owass Radio in Tarkwa when he suddenly collapsed.
He was subsequently taken to a hospital in the municipality, where medical personnel reportedly pronounced him dead on arrival.
The circumstances immediately before and during the collapse have not been fully explained in the reports available so far.
It also remains unclear what medical condition, if any, contributed to the incident. Until further information is released by his family or appropriate authorities, the cause of death should not be attributed to any particular illness.
The reported death has drawn attention because it occurred during a public media engagement involving an entertainer who had remained active in broadcasting and political discussions.
A familiar face on Ghanaian television
Kwame Dzokoto was widely recognised for his role as Judge Koboo in the long-running Ghanaian television series Efiewura, where his comic performances helped make him a familiar face in households across the country.
He also hosted TV3’s food programme Edziban, which explored Ghanaian food, local eateries and culinary traditions.
Through his television appearances, radio work and distinctive style of humour, Dzokoto built a public profile that extended beyond acting.
His comic expressions and memorable phrases became part of his appeal among viewers and listeners. His entertainment career included radio presentation, voice-over work and other media engagements.
For many Ghanaians, his contribution to entertainment was closely associated with the humour and everyday cultural references that made local television productions popular.
His political journey with the NDC
Beyond entertainment, Dzokoto was involved in Ghanaian politics as a member of the NDC.
He contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat during the 2016 general election but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s George Mireku Duker.
His political involvement continued alongside his work in entertainment and broadcasting, allowing him to participate in public discussions that went beyond the creative industry.
His appearance at Owass Radio reportedly involved a panel discussion in which political issues were being discussed.
The news of his death has therefore touched both the entertainment community and people familiar with his political activities.
He dismissed death rumours weeks earlier
In September 2026, Dzokoto publicly responded to speculation about his health after footage of him at a public event prompted online discussions about his physical appearance.
During a media interview, he rejected reports suggesting that he had died or was in the critical condition some social media posts claimed.
He also discussed previous health challenges and said he had received support that enabled him to undergo surgery abroad. Businessman Ibrahim Mahama had reportedly financed the treatment after First Lady Lordina Mahama intervened on his behalf.
Dzokoto said at the time that he was doing better and urged bloggers and social media users to verify information before publishing claims about a person’s health.
His earlier comments are relevant to the public timeline, but there is currently no verified evidence establishing a connection between those reported health challenges and the circumstances of his death.
An entertainment career remembered
Dzokoto’s work on Efiewura and Edziban helped establish his place in Ghana’s popular entertainment culture.
His performances combined comedy, familiar expressions and observations drawn from everyday Ghanaian life. His work on television and radio gave him opportunities to connect with audiences across different age groups.
His career also reflected the overlap between Ghana’s entertainment industry and public life, as he pursued political interests while continuing to be known for his media work.
As news of his reported death spreads, further information from his family, colleagues and the institutions involved is expected to clarify the circumstances and provide details about funeral arrangements.
Official details still awaited
Although Citi Newsroom and other Ghanaian media outlets have reported his death, a comprehensive public statement from his family had not been reported at the time this article was prepared.
The cause of death, the full circumstances surrounding his collapse and funeral arrangements therefore remain unconfirmed.
GhanaianNewsCanada will continue to follow developments as further verified information becomes available.
