Two separate and disturbing incidents in Ghana’s Central Region have sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about violent crimes and community safety.
Unconfirmed Location Incident:
In one incident, a young woman allegedly killed by a man believed to be a fetish priest has shocked the public. Preliminary reports suggest that the victim was the suspect’s girlfriend and was murdered under suspicious circumstances raising fears of ritual-related activity.
The suspect has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service. His mother was reportedly taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue. Following news of the alleged killing, some residents reportedly destroyed the suspect’s family house in anger. Police intervened to prevent further violence and protect the suspect’s mother from the mob.
Gomoa Dominase Incident:
In a confirmed incident at Gomoa Dominase, a 50-year-old woman named Abiba was allegedly killed by a 40-year-old Fulani man. According to Adom Online (106.3 FM), Abiba was on her way to purchase cow milk from Fulani herdsmen when the suspect allegedly attacked her.
The victim’s son, who was on the phone with her at the time, reportedly heard her scream that someone was attempting to force himself on her before the call abruptly ended. The suspect allegedly strangled the woman after she resisted and fled the scene.
He was later tracked and apprehended by residents on March 11, 2026, at a market where onions were being sold, reportedly with some associates believed to be land guards. Angry residents allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to the police.
Commentary:
These incidents expose serious gaps in community security, rapid response, and law enforcement coverage. While public outrage is understandable, mob justice risks escalating violence and undermining the rule of law.
The Ghana Police Service must intensify community policing, intelligence gathering, and rapid intervention, especially in areas prone to ritual-related or violent crimes. Swift arrests and proper prosecution of suspects should be paired with public education campaigns to discourage vigilantism and restore confidence in law enforcement.
Authorities are also urged to address emerging threats from land guards and criminal networks, which may be exploited to commit violent acts. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities promptly rather than taking the law into their own hands.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and police have assured the public that all steps are being taken to ensure justice is served.
