Brad Jacobs Edges Italy’s Retornaz at Grand Slam of Curling

TORONTO — Canadian champion Brad Jacobs clinched a narrow 5-4 victory over Italy’s Joel Retornaz Thursday morning at the AMJ Players’ Championship, scoring a single in the final end to seal the win.
Despite throwing a game-low 70 percent, Jacobs managed to deliver in the clutch at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. He is competing this week with a substitute front end of Connor Njegovan (lead) and Tyler Tardi (second).
Elsewhere in the early draw, Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz edged Scotland’s Ross Whyte 5-4, while Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa defeated South Korea’s Eunji Gim 6-5 in a close women’s match. Canada’s Kerri Einarson also picked up a solid 8-5 win over Switzerland’s Xenia Schwaller.

Three more draws are scheduled later today, with competition continuing through Sunday at the season-ending Grand Slam of Curling event.
