The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an outlaw motorcycle gang accused of terrorising residents in parts of the Kumasi metropolis through alleged midnight motorcycle racing, attacks and robberies.

The arrests followed what police described as sustained monitoring of the group’s activities and movements within the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave, where its members were allegedly taking over public roads and attacking unsuspecting pedestrians.

The three suspects have been identified as Sharif Mahmud, 23; Abdallah Karim, 25; and James Alena, 25.

According to the police, the suspects were intercepted at Suame in Kumasi at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Several other alleged members of the group reportedly escaped during the operation.

Police outline alleged activities of the gang

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the suspected gang had allegedly been engaging in illegal motorcycle racing at midnight, taking over public roads and attacking and robbing unsuspecting passersby.

The activities were said to have created fear and insecurity among residents in the affected communities.

The statement was issued by Superintendent Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, Head of the Command’s Public Affairs Unit.

Police explained that they had been monitoring the group’s movements as part of sustained efforts to apprehend its members, who had repeatedly evaded arrest.

The operation at Suame eventually resulted in the arrest of the three suspects, although other alleged members managed to escape.

Suspects granted police inquiry bail

The three arrested men have since been granted police inquiry bail.

They are expected to be arraigned before court when proceedings can resume following the nationwide strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG), which began on Monday, November 2.

The industrial action has disrupted court operations, affecting the immediate prosecution of cases awaiting hearings.

The police have not indicated that the suspects have been convicted of any offence. The allegations remain subject to investigation and the judicial process.

Police intensify search for fleeing members

Investigations into the group’s alleged activities are continuing, with the Ashanti Regional Police Command pursuing efforts to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.

The Command has appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist investigators in tracking down those who escaped.

It has also reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and addressing criminal activities that threaten public safety.

Residents urged to support police investigations

The arrests come amid concerns about public safety in communities where alleged late-night motorcycle activities have been associated with road takeovers, attacks and robberies.

Residents with credible information about the suspected gang or the whereabouts of its fleeing members have been encouraged to assist the police.

For communities within the Breman-Kronum-Suame area, the ongoing investigation will be important in establishing the full extent of the alleged activities and whether additional individuals were involved.

The three arrested suspects remain subject to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
