The Akuapem South Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has launched efforts to restore the Aburi Botanical Gardens following reports of unauthorized tree cutting at the historic site.

The action comes in the wake of the arrest of two individuals, including the curator of the gardens, who are assisting with an ongoing police investigation into the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Municipal Assembly and signed by Mr. Paul Osae Offei, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Assembly acted swiftly in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to probe the circumstances surrounding the illegal activity.

Described as a precious ecological and tourism asset, the Aburi Botanical Gardens holds significant cultural and environmental value. The Assembly stressed its commitment to ensuring justice and preventing future occurrences of similar offences.

To gauge the extent of the damage, a technical team has been deployed to assess the affected areas. Plans for restoring the gardens are being developed in consultation with the Department of Parks and Gardens in Accra.

In its appeal to the public, the Assembly urged calm and encouraged anyone with credible information to assist the authorities by contacting the Assembly or the Aburi Police Station. Updates on the restoration and investigations will be provided as the situation develops.
