The Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom has received a delegation from the Ahanta Festival Planning Committee as preparations gather momentum for the upcoming Ahanta Festival, scheduled to take place in London later this month.

The delegation, led by Nana Quayson, paid a courtesy call on the Ghana High Commission to brief the Mission on arrangements for the festival and formally extend an invitation to the celebrations.

The visit provided an opportunity for the organisers to update the diplomatic mission on their preparations and highlight the cultural significance of the event, which is expected to bring together members of the Ahanta community and other Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom.

According to information shared by the Ghana High Commission, the festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Oasis Academy, Croydon, London, CR9 7AL.

Celebrating Ahanta heritage beyond Ghana

The Ahanta Festival is expected to provide a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Ahanta people, including their traditions, customs and shared identity.

For Ghanaians living outside the country, cultural celebrations of this nature offer an opportunity to maintain connections with their ancestral communities while introducing younger generations to the traditions and values that shape their heritage.

The festival is also expected to promote unity and strengthen relationships among members of the Ahanta community in the diaspora.

As Ghanaian communities continue to establish themselves across different parts of the world, traditional festivals have become important occasions for preserving cultural identity and creating spaces where people can reconnect with their roots.

Strengthening Ghanaian cultural identity in the diaspora

The engagement with the Ghana High Commission also highlights the importance of collaboration between Ghanaian cultural organisations abroad and the country’s diplomatic missions.

Ghanaian festivals and community gatherings in the diaspora provide opportunities to promote the country’s cultural diversity, strengthen community networks and sustain connections between Ghanaians abroad and their homeland.

The Ahanta Festival is expected to contribute to these efforts by bringing together people who share an interest in preserving and celebrating Ahanta traditions.

The involvement of the Ghana High Commission further places the festival within the broader efforts to maintain Ghana’s cultural presence and identity among communities overseas.
