A-Plus and Afenyo-Markin Reconcile, Pledge to End Feud for the Sake of Peace
The Gomoa Central and Effutu MPs set aside their differences following deadly boundary clashes, calling on residents to reject retaliation and embrace dialogue

A remarkable show of political reconciliation has emerged from Ghana’s Central Region as Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin have agreed to end their public feud and work together to restore lasting peace between their neighbouring constituencies.
The two lawmakers reached the understanding following days of heightened tension and deadly clashes linked to a long-running land boundary dispute between communities in Gomoa and Effutu. The violence claimed lives, left several people injured and raised concerns about escalating conflict in the area.
From confrontation to cooperation
For weeks, A-Plus and Afenyo-Markin had exchanged strong public statements over the disputed boundaries, with each defending the interests of constituents within their respective jurisdictions.
However, both leaders have now committed themselves to dialogue rather than confrontation, describing peace as more important than political rivalry.
The reconciliation is being viewed as a significant step toward easing tensions in communities where residents have lived under fear following the recent disturbances.
Joint appeal to residents
Following their reconciliation, the two Members of Parliament urged residents of Gomoa and Effutu to remain calm and allow the security agencies and traditional authorities to resolve the dispute through lawful processes.
They warned against revenge attacks, inflammatory rhetoric and the spread of misinformation capable of provoking further violence.
Both lawmakers emphasized that the people of Gomoa and Effutu share historical, cultural and economic ties that should never be destroyed by conflict over land boundaries.
Prioritising lives over politics
A-Plus said the wellbeing of the affected communities must take precedence over partisan differences, stressing that elected leaders have a responsibility to unite people during moments of crisis.
Afenyo-Markin echoed the sentiment, calling on youth groups and community members to cooperate with police investigations and support efforts aimed at restoring normalcy.
Their joint commitment signals a shift from political confrontation to collaborative leadership at a time when residents are demanding stability and justice.
Hope for lasting peace
Traditional leaders, community elders and residents have welcomed the reconciliation, expressing hope that the renewed cooperation between the two MPs will create the conditions for meaningful dialogue and a permanent resolution of the boundary dispute.
As investigations into the recent clashes continue, the message from both parliamentary representatives is clear: peace, unity and the protection of innocent lives must come before politics.
