Joyce Bawah Mogtari Urges Diaspora Women to Build Businesses and Generational Wealth

Senior Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari has called on Ghanaian women in the diaspora to move beyond remittances and individual investments towards building sustainable enterprises capable of creating long-term and generational wealth.
Mrs Bawah Mogtari made the call following her participation in the EVE Women’s Forum USA, where she spoke on the theme, “Legacy and Longevity: Women Building Wealth and Health Across the Diaspora.”
In a Facebook post, she reflected on Ghana’s progress in advancing women’s leadership, including the country’s historic election of its first female Vice President, while stressing the need to translate social and political progress into lasting economic empowerment.
She urged Ghanaian women living abroad to contribute not only financial resources but also their expertise, professional knowledge, networks and international connections towards Ghana’s development.
According to her, the focus should be on creating businesses and institutions that generate sustainable value and can be passed from one generation to another.
“Let us move from remittances to investment, from investment to enterprise, and from enterprise to generational wealth,” she said.
Mrs Bawah Mogtari added that future generations should inherit more than the struggles of those who came before them.
She said they should also inherit “our businesses, institutions, investments and legacy”, describing the forum as an important reminder of the need to deliberately build lasting economic and social foundations.
Commentary
Remittances provide immediate support, but sustainable enterprises create long-term economic influence. The challenge is to transform diaspora resources into businesses and institutions that continue creating opportunities long after the original investment.
