Addressing the gathering, the Vice President commended Ghanaians living in Canada for their hard work, achievements, and continued commitment to national development. She emphasized that the Ghanaian diaspora remains a critical partner in Ghana’s growth through investment, skills transfer, mentorship, innovation, and advocacy.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that the government values the contributions of Ghanaians abroad and is committed to deepening engagement with diaspora communities around the world. She encouraged members of the community to remain actively connected to national affairs and to explore opportunities that support economic growth and social development in Ghana.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for community members to discuss issues affecting Ghanaians living in Canada, including investment opportunities, youth development, education, and ways of strengthening cultural ties between Ghana and the diaspora.

During her visit, the Vice President also paid a morale-boosting visit to the Black Stars in Toronto ahead of Ghana’s opening FIFA World Cup match against Panama. Accompanied by senior government officials and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, she conveyed the support of President John Dramani Mahama and the entire nation to the players and technical team.

She urged the team to play with unity, discipline, and determination, reminding them that millions of Ghanaians at home and abroad were rallying behind them as they pursued success on football’s biggest stage.

The Vice President’s engagement with the Ghanaian community forms part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen relations with the diaspora, which continues to play an important role in Ghana’s economic development through remittances, business investments, and professional expertise.
