The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) 2024 is this weekend, June 1, 2024.
The organisers, Charterhouse Ghana, have announced performers for the night, including four contenders for the ultimate (Artiste of the Year) trophy, and revealed how much it would patrons cost to see them live.
“Stonebwoy, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Mr Drew, Nacee, Amerado, King Paluta, Efya, Amaarae, Team Eternity and many more,” a montage of Facebook indicated, will be on the prestigious stage with their latest and classic hits, celebrating the music award scheme’s 25th anniversary.
On the said App’s timeline, also, two tiers of tickets have been unveiled: Premium GHS500 and VIP GHS700.
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards is the first and topmost brag for music makers in Ghana. In 2023, Hiphop/Hiplife sensation Black Sherif clinched the Artiste of the Year trophy. This year, he has the chance to hold on to the accolade or lose it to Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Kuami Eugene and Nacee.
Sarkodie is the only solo act to win Artiste of the Year twice, VIP (VVIP) being the only group to repeat a win in the category. Stonebwoy, Kuami Eugene and Black Sherif have all lifted the trophy once.
King Promise, a favourite to win – with keen competition from Stonebwoy, however – and Nacee are newcomers.
The Artiste of the Year award is the highest honour given to the artiste(s) adjudged by Charterhouse, GMA Board, Academy, and the General Public as having the highest audience appeal, highest radio play, highest online streaming and popularity.
The year under review for the TGMAs 2024 is January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
In the lead up to the Saturday showdown, the Unsung artiste of the year has been revealed to be rapper Kwesi Amewuga, alias Land Guard, who beat off competition from Kasar, Lali X Lola, Keeny Ice, Seven Kizs and Alaptawan. As Unsung winner, he is recognised as a lesser-known music figure of remarkable ability, and, in keeping with tradition, is expected to perform on the momentous night.
Meanwhile, Aseda hitmaker King Paluta, a rapper and singer of 15 years, made a splash with four debut nominations for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards which begins with a red carpet event from 7PM.
