Accra, Ghana The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association (CSSMA) has publicly commended the leadership of Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), saying his stewardship is helping to transform the country’s small-scale and artisanal gold mining sector.
In a statement released this week, the association described Mr. Gyamfi’s tenure as pivotal in turning President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a more structured, fair and nationally beneficial gold industry into reality.
According to the group, GoldBod was established to bring order and fairness to the gold trade, and under Mr. Gyamfi’s direction it is steadily delivering on that mandate.
CSSMA officials highlighted several aspects of Gyamfi’s leadership that they say are yielding positive results. They pointed to his commitment to the national interest, disciplined approach to management, and recognition of the economic importance of small-scale miners.
The miners also commended his open engagement with operators across the country, saying regular dialogue has helped rebuild trust between miners and the state while ensuring policymaking is informed by real-world industry experiences.
A key area of praise was the new pricing regime implemented by GoldBod. The association described the pricing framework as fair and transparent, noting it has improved incomes for miners, reduced exploitation by intermediaries, and encouraged sales through approved channels strengthening compliance and stability within the sector.
Beyond benefits to mining communities, CSSMA said GoldBod’s operations are contributing to national economic stability by reducing revenue leakages and formalising gold purchases, which in turn supports Ghana’s foreign exchange earnings, helps ease inflationary pressures, and strengthens investor confidence.
The group also welcomed Mr. Gyamfi’s tough stance against gold smuggling and the plans to introduce a credible traceability system that tracks gold from the source to sale a measure they believe will protect state revenue, uphold the integrity of the sector, and reduce the environmental damage associated with illegal mining.
Reaffirming their support, the miners said they stand firmly behind Mr. Gyamfi and GoldBod as they work to build a transparent, well-regulated gold sector that benefits both small-scale miners and the nation as a whole.
