The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced a new increase in sachet water prices, effective April 6.
The association attributes this to rising production costs, particularly the surge in polymer prices due to global supply disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran.
Under the new pricing:
Ex-factory price: GH¢8
Ex-truck price: GH¢10
Maximum retail price: GH¢15 per bag
NASPAWAP has urged all stakeholders to comply, stressing that the increase is necessary to sustain production and ensure continuous supply.
Commentary:
This is where global politics meets local suffering. A war thousands of miles away now determines whether a Ghanaian can afford water, the most basic necessity of life. This is not just inflation; this is vulnerability. When essentials like water become unstable in price, it signals a fragile economic structure. The question is simple: how long can the ordinary citizen survive under constant economic shocks?
