The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in connection with alleged controversial public statements.

According to reports, Abronye DC was picked up by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into allegations of false publication, offensive conduct, and actions likely to cause fear and panic.

Sources indicate that the arrest may also be linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, a development that has raised concern within legal and political circles.

Police officials have yet to release a full charge sheet, but investigators are said to be reviewing statements and evidence connected to the case as part of a broader probe into his recent public comments.

The outspoken politician, known for his strong and often controversial commentary on national issues, has had previous encounters with law enforcement. This latest arrest follows earlier incidents, including a 2025 case in which he was detained over similar allegations related to offensive conduct.

News of his arrest quickly spread across Ghana, sparking mixed reactions among political observers and supporters. While some members of the NPP view his rhetoric as bold political expression, critics argue that his statements frequently cross legal boundaries.

In a further development, reports indicate that Abronye DC has since been granted bail after his arrest, although details of the bail conditions have not been fully disclosed.

The arrest also comes amid heightened political tensions, with some party members expressing concern about the use of state security agencies in handling political speech, while others emphasize the need for accountability and adherence to the law.

The Ghana Police Service is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
